Abida's Magazine Cover

Before creating my magazine, I had decided to do pre planning sketch. The reason of creating a sketch design of the empire magazine was because it gave me an understanding of how I would want my magazine to be structured and what to include. For example making sure I included each key convention.


This is my finished Empire magazine cover for The Ring Of Betrayal created by using Adobe Fireworks CS4. This is a lot of different from the first draft of the magazine I have used an image of the main female character of the film. I have researched many empire covers that focuses on one of the main characters of a film. In order to make the shot stand out I manipulated it my using the brightness and contrast tool. I am please with the outcome of my final empire magazine, as I got edited the background of the image and made the background black Within my research I have notices that Empire pick out colours from the image and use the colours for the text. I have picked out the soft gold colour from the gold belt that the female character is wearing and the gold ring, the black from the females top. I included all the Empire cover conventions such asthe Empire Masthead, the date and price, puffs.








Audience feedback:
I got five students to add a comment that are either advantages/disadvantages. These are the following comments:
1) The use of the gold colour that came from the ring
2) The image is in great focus
3) Could have added more text about other media film text
4) Simple key conventions have been included, Good use of colour
5) It was a good idea to edit the image background, as there was a lot going on. It’s now simple as there is more focus on the film
First draft of my empire magazine
This was my first draft. I had used Adobe Photoshop CS4 to create it. I added all empire magazine cover key conventions . Also I added Facebook icon image at the bottom corner, and a text saying “Join us on Facebook”. I thought of having this on the magazine as it would really promote our film also it’s a great appeal to the targeted audience as its a social network which is one of the popular sites.. And having the Facebook logo would help as it would catch audience’s attention because they would recognise it straightaway.
However I was not pleased with the outcome of the magazine because of the use of colour; red and blue and the background of the image.

Audience feedback:
I got five students to add a comment that are either advantages/disadvantages. These are the following comments:
1) There is a lot going on around the characters face, so the focus of the magazine is not good
2) The colour scheme of blue and red does not suit
3) Would need to change the film title of the magazine because you would not have a background colour behind it.
4) It includes all key conventions
5) I really like the idea of the two arrows and the movie images in small size at the bottom

This was a rough design of the empire magazine which I created; it is the same as the other magazine. All I did was change the colour scheme to green and red to match the image of the magazine.

1) The colour scheme is really effective, it pulls out the colour from the image
2) The image is well framed and the conventions have been met
3) The image needs to overlap the Empire title
4) Its simple and the colours have worked out really well and interesting background
5) The film title needs to be in a different font because it has no affect or meaning to the theme of the film
