Changes to Shotlist

Shot list – The Ring of Betrayal
Each shot has been moved down as to make room for our company logo.

1.Company Logo

2.Pan shot of beach (Producers names) – this shot has not changed this is because we felt that it worked well to set the scene.

3.Long shot of man 1 and woman running along the beach laughing – this shot has changed to a long shot of Man 1 and Woman walking along the beach holding hands and talking (music by).

4.Close up of hands holding, focusing on wedding rings – This shot was removed as after filming we found it made our teaser look to much like a film opening.

5.180 degree shot of married couple on bench (man 1husband) – This shot was also removed for the same reason. We decided to replace this shot with a Long shot flash of a dead woman on the floor.

6.Zoom in on woman’s eye (flashback) – This shot was also moved due to many filming complications it caused.

7.Long shot of hotel in London – This shot has been changed to number 5 on our shot list and we also decided to do a Pan up of the building instead, this made our shot very diverse and made the building look bigger.

8.High angle of the wedding ring falling on the table – This shot was also removed as we felt that the shot made the teaser look very unprofessional.

9.Mid shot of woman kissing man 2 (black and white) – This shot was changed to an over the shoulder shot of Woman breaking off the affaire with man 2. We changed this shot as it made our storyline a lot more interesting.

10.Zoom in on wedding ring (Graphic match of eye) – This shot was removed as it did not correspond with other shots. We moved the mid shot of Woman at work here.

12.High angle of woman looking for wedding ring – After filming this shot we had no choice but to remove it as our teaser trailer went over the required filming time and we felt this was not an important shot. To replace this shot we added in a mid shot of Man 1 at the beach.

13.Graphic shot of “betrayal” - This shot has stayed the same

14.Over the shoulder shot man 1 questioning wedding ring – This shot had to also be removed due to timing difficulties and after removing shot 12 this shot lost its meaning. To replace this shot we added in a mid shot of the police questioning

15.Mid shot reverse shot of woman lying and man1 of ring to help look – This shot was removed due to it making our teaser look to much like a film opening. This has been changed to another long shot flash of the dead woman.

16.Pan up of London work building – This shot was removed due their being too many establishing shots. This has been changed to a mid shot of Man 2 answering the police interrogation.

17.Mid shot woman at work (Characters name) – this shot has not changed but has been moved.

18.Zoom in on woman’s shoes (directed by) – This shot was removed due to timing difficulties and again it being a minor shot.

23. Low level of woman’s feet walking through the tunnel (cross cut) – This shot has been taken out as we felt it was too much. To replace this we added a high angle long shot of the police officer out of work uniform.

23. Low level of man 2’s feet walking through the tunnel (cross cut) – This has been changed to a long shot of woman’s shoes walking

24. Low level of woman’s feet walking up the stairs (cross cut) – this has been changed to a close up on woman’s shoes walking up the stairs.

25. Low level of man 2’s feet walking up the stairs (cross cut) – This has been changed to a close up on man 2 shoes following up the stairs.

27. Close up of her being Kidnapped – This shot has been changed to long shot of woman in the boot of a car.

40. Graphic shot of production company logo – This has been moved to the beginning.

Man 1 = Husband
Man 2 = Man that woman is having affair with.

Alot of our shots have been changed due to us seeing the errors of our shot list along the way. It is easy to say you are going to do this shot but when it comes to filming and editing we found it looked very unprofessional thus a lot of changes were made. However the storyline has not changed and neither has the plot, we feel by making these changes we have made our teaser trailers meaning clearer.

Improvements from the Feedback

From the feedback results my partner and I have improved a lot and we got to understand by having a class discussion with our media students and our teacher, it had benefited us a lot as we received a lot feedback.
On the left side, this image was from the original rough cut, we had changed it by using the brightness/contrast tools. The result is viewed on the right. You can see the difference between the original, I am happy with the result after using the tool as it created the image to be more smooth and relax because of the colour tone.

We got recommended to zoom into one of the windows as the woman character named Anna was seen with the affair man in a hotel room. However we decided to keep it as a pan shot. As audience are able to see the exterior building of where the woman located at.

The left image is from the rough cut; this image was very dull and had no colour to it. Therefore we used the brightness/contrast tool to even out the colour and add more brightness. Also we used the cropping tool, now you can see; the top part of the teaser is shown. I am happy with the outcome as you are able to see the image better. (the image on the right).

Many students had advised us not to use this shot because of the lighting issue, the location did not have a lot of light. Also the camera technique was not good. So my media partner and I had decided not to use this shot.

This shot is very effective, as it’s only seen at a 1 -2 second duration in the teaser trailer. Therefore we manipulated this image by applying the colour green to bring out the colour of the grass so this would bring out more focus of the action. I am happy with the result on the right.

We had realised the colour black was not good enough to create meaning, although ‘tell no one’ a real media text do use black shoes. However after the feedback, we decided to use red shoes as it added a lot of meaning.

Class Feedback of Rough Cut Teaser Trailer

Feedback Results

From the results I have found out the following;
All ratings were over 7/10. So that is above average this shows our rough cut of the teaser is watchable although from this questionnaire we understood that we needed to improve it more to get 10/10.
The reason of their rating is because few shots had marked the teaser down. These shots were; the couple scene in interior building, when the man asks where is the ring. This was an over the shoulder shot however the audience had felt it should be from a different shot also the location was seen as not suitable to use, also the lighting issue.
Few students had said the black shoes had no meaning, they recommended us to use a better shot also maybe add red shoes to add more meaning to the film.
Many students had thought the ring spinning was a good idea, as it reflects the title. However my media partner and I had decided not to add the ring although it was a good thought; however it was not good use to us. Students have said the beginning of the teaser had interesting shots as it began with the sea view then a shot of the couple walking along the beach.
Students have mentioned the storyline makes sense because of the stereotypical characters that we shown throughout the teaser.
Students had also recommended us to take care of our framing when we were filming. So we had to make sure we had good framing that is by using the crop tool because most images were badly framed. Also to saturate most images by using the brightness /contrast tools.

Feedback Questionnaire

After the class had watched our rough cut of the teaser, I gave five of our media students a questionnaire to fill in.

Mise en Scène Questionnaire Results

I have asked 20 people my questionnaire to ensure that I obtain reliable results.

1. What type of locations do you expect to see within a romance/action teaser trailer?

Many people said that the type of locations they would like are outside, fields and very deserted places. This was because after seeing our script they felt that the clips would work well within these locations. I have decided that I will be using my feedback as it works well for the films genre and makes the clips more mysterious to the audience.

What type of lighting would you like to see within a romance/action film?

20% of people felt that high key lighting would enhance the films attributes well, I however have decided that low key lighting will fit better to set the mood to fit the genre better.

10% of people felt that low key lighting would work better to create a dull and sad mood, this is not what our genre wants to portray and so I shall only use this within sad clips.

70% of people said that ambient lighting is the best lighting as we are able to film in the right light and create any lighting effect we want with natural or powered light if in doors.

What type of costumes would you like to see within a romance/action film?
Many of my audience said that the costumes to be natural and every day for most of the characters. This would help to define their own style and make the film look more formal.

What type of acting is expected of a romance/action film?
Everyone I asked said that the acting must be of the best quality in order to make it believable.

Audience Results

From the result I found that girls were more likely to watch romance than Horror/war/fiction. Whereas male results show they prefer comedy or Thriller

Targeted Audience Age

The British Board of Film Classification classifies films on behalf of the local authories who license cinemas under the Licensing Act 2003.Using the guidelines of BBFC, our film would be classified under as 12a as it has no sexual reference, moderate/ extreme violence. I think this fits well with our film as our film is based around a woman’s secret affair. Our film does not contain violence or contain any sex scenes or nudity besides the couples kissed at one point in the beach to indicate they are together.
The camera shots were chosen effectively to give meaning so audience were able to understand the storyline such as the long shot of the couples on beach this represents their love for each other and that they were happy. The kidnap scene creating a mystery and keeping audience feel tense. The low level shot of the woman’s shoes this brings tension as audiences don’t know what will happen next. The chosen location was ideal as it shoes the genre of the film; the couples on the beach (romantic genre). The low key lighting of the train station; the woman walks alone creates tension.

Location Outline

For our film teaser trailer we will be using a variety of locations. This will help to make our teaser more interesting and familiar to our audience. A number of our location will be situated around different parts of London such as the tube, underground tunnels, outside of a work building, outside of a hotel and along the busy streets. This will make our trailer look more professional and make the storyline stronger. Other location we will be using is Southend pier, Canvey island beach, memorial park and in a variety of rooms around mine and Abida’s houses.

Research and Planning: Props

Props are important when producing a film as it helps to portray meaning. For our teaser trailer we are using props that symbolise the woman’s relationship.

These five items are important props to have in our production film.

The ring symbolises the woman’s relationship as it represents the storyline of betrayal. This is when the woman has a secret affair with one of her colleagues. And that is why the film title is called ‘The ring of betrayal’

The red shoes and the suit is what the female character wears during the kidnap scene

The phone will be used by the husband to indicate that he knows about the woman’s affair and that is when the danger begins.

The missing poster was used because it gives a serious tone to the teaser as audience realise the woman Anna has disappeared.

Character and Costumes

Our teaser trailer will have three main characters within it; these are the Woman (Anna), Man 1 (James) and Man 2 (Daniel). James is the married to Anna and Daniel is having an affaire with her. The characters of James and Daniel will counteract each other making the teaser more thrilling. Anna’s character is successful and youthful; her character will be reflecting this through her suits and smart wear, however she will be wearing distinctive shoes throughout portraying her rebellious side. James is also youthful and successful; he on the other hand dresses more casually showing his laid back approach to life. Daniel is an older character he dresses professionally but does not look youthful. He also will be wearing very distinctive shoes throughout. There is also other minor characters within the teaser such as the police who will be dresses professionally but in suits rather then police uniform, this is to show their higher authority, also the ex police friend who will be dressed very professionally in order to be taken more seriously.

Plot Outline

Our film is based around a young married couple. The wife is having a secret affair with a work mate due to a crack in her relationship after falling in love so young. This all changes when she discovers she is pregnant. She then ends the affairs in an attempt to fix her marriage but begins to be stalked and obsessed over by her dirty little secrete. Soon after she goes missing and know one can account for where she has been, apart from her secrete lover whom know one knows of. Will he confess about their affair or does he know something of her disappearance?

Word Board

Please click to see full size

We did a word board to outline the type of feelings that are present throughout the whole of our trailer. We did this to give the audience an idea of what emotions are present, this will than help them to make a better judgement of our teaser trailer.

Moodboard

While researching and planning our film production I created a mood board to display ideas and thoughts of the film. Most of the sources where found on the internet and magazine.
We wanted the audience to know the genre of the film by adding the props of a wedding ring that symbolises the love chain as well as betrayal, and so shows that our film is based on romance.

The mood board includes the costume images, which shows the type of character the woman will be carrying out. She is a working class person that works in a busy city. In order to show that the affair man is simple and normal we chose a casual outfit.
We chose the beach for our location to show that it is a romantic scene, however audience feel the tension of betrayal and this enhances deceit of the marriage. We also chose the hotel for our location to show the audience that the woman is having an affair.

I think the mood board was a great research and a well prepared planning to start the project off as we were able to decide on what type character we were looking for as well as the main props and ideal locations.
I also noted down our ideas around the mood board to explain the meaning of why we chose the particular location, props, camera shot, and costume; such as the prop; the ring symbolizes the love chain throughout the film this represents the betrayal in the woman’s relationship.

Genre Outline

I researched genre before starting my film production. And I wanted to develop my ideas of what storyline I was looking for. From this research I would be able to come up with creative ideas and bring audience to watch my film production. Below are some examples of the genre that I studied.
Actionaction films include fights, battles against the ‘bad guys’ against the ‘male heroes’ explosions, disasters, firs, non-stop motion, adventurous, pretty girls, and undercover spies. This kind of film is very high energy that a hectic storyline.

Adventure- this is similar to action genre as it includes fights, battles, and enemies, bad and good guys. A mission for charters to complete; it may confuse audience to work out the storyline of the film. High energy and escapism is included

Comedyideal to amuse, entertain audience and make them laugh from the language, action, ironic storyline, characters and their relationships with others. There are romantic comedy, black comedy and others.

Crime/gangsterpeople that fit in the gangster category going against the law such as stealing and murdering and drugs. Enemies, cold hearted, vulnerable characters involved.

Horroraimed to frighten audience by adding people’s worst fears, monsters, deranged humans, and psychopath and serial killer characters. Many horror films link with science fictions genre.

Musicals/Dancefilms that emphasize songs/dance performance by characters that have an ambition in life. That is a typical storyline; it would have a main character that shows their life achievement of their performance of music/dance.

RomanceLove stories, affairs, emotion.Romance films make the love story or the search for love the main plot focus. Two people showing their journey into marriage. Relationships break downs, finances, physical illness social class status and family break ups. Tension is brought up in the plot.

Warit would be based on a true history war that supports and promotes the war. War is fighting against nations on land, sea or in the air. War films are often linked with action, adventure, drama, romance and comedy.
